# Bit Studio's Unreal Plugin Is Live on Fab

*2026-10-27 — Announcement — By Kim*

> The Bit Studio plugin for Unreal Engine 5 is approved and available on Fab, Epic's marketplace. Review took several rounds: Epic audited our license to Blastwave, our own engine, and had us move its C++ headers into the plugin's third-party folder. Fab has no upload API, so the Fab version is updated by hand, while the direct download on morgondag.io is published automatically by CI/CD. Unlike Bit - Animation Editor's Blueprint-only Paper2D integration, which Fab rejected, the new plugin is native C++ source and renders scenes lit by Lumen with shadows.
The Bit Studio plugin for Unreal Engine 5 is approved and live on Fab. **[Get it on Fab](https://www.fab.com/listings/e695dae5-ac1c-448e-bd44-b4d6ac6e633d)**. It plays your Bit Studio scenes live in a level or a UI, pixel for pixel. Hurray!

That took a few rounds... Last time I wrote about Fab, our publisher account was blocked over a [tax form](/news/bit-studio-coming-soon). This time it was about licenses?

## A license to our own license

Epic's review wanted to audit our license to [Blastwave](/news/blastwave-cross-platform-gpu-engine). Blastwave is our engine. So we had to show that we're licensed to use the engine we made ourselves.

They also wanted the engine's C++ headers moved into a folder in the plugin dedicated to third-party code. Fair enough, we moved them and pushed a new version. The reply: they'd need 2 to 4 weeks to verify the license.

To our own license. Enterprise satire writes itself.

But it went through, and the plugin is up.. Red tape achivement ding!

## No pipeline in sight

What surprised us more: Fab has no real upload pipeline. No automation, no API. A new version means pasting an old-school link to a zip file into a form and waiting for review again. Now we know why so many plugins on there are out of date. Come on Epic you can do it!

Compare that with Steam, where Bit Studio has a full CI/CD pipeline all the way: push a change and the build lands on Steam without anyone touching it. The plugin downloads on [our own page](/bit-studio) work the same way: every release builds the zips and publishes them, so the direct download is always the newest version. Fab gets the same zip by hand, after review, so it will sometimes trail a little behind.

## Agentic engine vs upload form from 1990

Epic recently announced that it's going all in on agentic coding for Unreal Engine 6. So the agentic-leaning enterprise has some work to do on its own store first. An agent can write your engine code? but it can't ship a S3 bucket pipeline to Fab? MMmmokay..

I also wonder how long it takes for the agent to figure out that Blueprints shouldn't be dropped. There's some irony in outsourcing intelligence..

## Why it got in this time

This isn't our first try. The old [Bit - Animation Editor](/games/bit-animation-editor) had an Unreal integration too, built on Paper2D sprites and flipbooks and driven by Blueprints. Fab rejected it, because at the time it didn't accept Blueprint-only plugins.

Bit Studio's plugin is real C++ source, implemented directly against the engine. A scene is drawn on the GPU with Blastwave's own shaders onto a card in your level, so it's lit by the world and casts shadows, its glow lights the room through Lumen, and it costs a lot less than a stack of flipbooks. The [Unreal guide](/news/export-pixel-art-loops-to-unreal-engine-5) has the details and the setup.

## Get it

- **[Bit Studio on Fab](https://www.fab.com/listings/e695dae5-ac1c-448e-bd44-b4d6ac6e633d)**: the plugin, in your Fab library and the Epic launcher.
- **[Direct download](/bit-studio)**: the newest plugin and the example project, straight from our CDN.
- **[How to export loops to Unreal Engine 5](/news/export-pixel-art-loops-to-unreal-engine-5)**: from Bit Studio to a level in a few minutes.

Bit Studio itself is coming to Steam for Windows, Mac and Linux.
