# Bit Studio — Modern Pixel art that loops forever

Bit Studio is Morgondag's pixel-art animation studio, coming soon for Windows, Mac and Linux. It is built on composable sprite-sheet art: reusable parts combined into seamlessly looping scenes, with 2D lights, particles, distortions, masks and post effects built in. It runs on Blastwave, our own cross-platform SDL3 GPU engine.

## Artwork

Every piece on the HTML page plays live in the browser: exported from Bit Studio as a web page and drawn on WebGL2 with Blastwave's own shaders.

- **Cortex Main** (4 s loop): A mind at rest is still a machine. Every rail hums in place, going nowhere, and that is the point.
- **Void Cog** (4 s loop): Everything turns toward the center, and nothing is lost on the way. A small engine for a very large silence.
- **Sea and the Sun** (8 s loop): Morning as a ritual. The sun rises over the same waves forever, and somehow that is enough.
- **Pill Eye** (4 s loop): Half dream, half medicine. A soft pink watcher that glows once you stop looking for answers.
- **Golden Eye** (4 s loop): Old gold and slow breath. An eye that has opened a thousand times and still does it gently.
- **Bonsai Winter Night** (4 s loop): Snow on a small tree, late. Patience kept alive by a single light.
- **Attractor** (4 s loop): The good kind of gravity: the one that pulls the whole city in and makes it dance.
- **JapCore** (4 s loop): 金曜日, Friday night. The eve of the weekend, neon in the rain, everything spinning just a little.
- **Relic** (4 s loop): Found at latitude 59.3, home. A relic that keeps transmitting long after the signal is gone.
- **WAKE** (4 s loop): Wake, wake, wake. The mantra of a morning that keeps beginning.
- **Elfer** (4 s loop): A guardian made of folklore and circuitry, keeping watch while the snow falls.
- **Sane Goal** (4 s loop): 心, heart, written again and again into the dark. Staying steady is its own kind of goal.
- **Star Lord** (4 s loop): A drop of molten light hanging in space, held up by something we will never see.
- **Skull** (12 s loop): Memento mori in crimson. A skull with gravity for eyes, a reminder dressed as a machine.
- **Pump Triangle** (8 s loop): Pressure, pulse and static: a red heart pumping under an old screen. Turn the sound on.
- **Bubba Code** (4 s loop): Creatures made of code stand guard while the data rains down around them.
- **Owlo** (20 s loop): The owl from the first Bit. Still wise, still watching, twenty patient seconds at a time.
- **Shogun** (17 s loop): Discipline as a pattern: a mask that never moves while the world repeats behind it.
- **Flow** (18 s loop): A tower where every part knows its place. Stop trying to understand it and let it carry you.

## What's inside

- **Seamless by design**: every scene is a loop; a part always plays a whole number of times inside its parent.
- **Composed, not drawn**: bits, parts, compositions, scene. Sprite sheets become reusable pieces you mirror, repeat, ring and recolor.
- **Light, particles, distortion**: 2D lights, looping particle fields, black holes and ripples, masks with borders and shine, post effects.
- **Themes**: art is stored as 16 gray levels and a theme maps them to colors; 460 palettes built in.
- **Export everywhere**: MP4, WebP, GIF, APNG, WebM, social sizes, icons, a Steam store kit, print-size PNG, a web page or a React component.
- **Unreal Engine 5**: a plugin plays exported scenes live in a level or UI, pixel for pixel.

## Questions

### What is Bit Studio?

Bit Studio is a pixel-art animation studio by Morgondag for artwork that loops forever. You import sprite sheets as bits, give parts their own motion, group them into compositions and place everything on a scene, then add 2D lights, looping particles, distortions, masks, type and post effects. Every scene loops seamlessly by design. It runs on Blastwave, our own cross-platform SDL3 GPU engine.

### How is it different from Bit - Animation Editor?

Bit Studio is the successor to Bit - Animation Editor (2020), rebuilt around cycles of loops on our own engine, so everything it exports loops seamlessly. The old Bit drew flat sprites with SDL's simple renderer; Bit Studio runs on Blastwave's GPU pipeline, which adds lights, glow, shader distortions and post effects to the pixel art. Its Unreal Engine 5 export is a native plugin instead of the old Paper2D sprites and flipbooks, it has an AI assistant and an MCP server for the whole engine, and it ships through a CI/CD pipeline instead of manual deploys. The announcement post covers the rest.

### Does it export to Unreal Engine?

Yes, to Unreal Engine 5. Export > Unreal sends a scene straight into an open Unreal project, and the Bit Studio plugin plays it live in a level or in UMG, pixel for pixel, with runtime palettes, Blueprint control, gameplay events and Lumen lighting. Unlike the old Bit's export, it doesn't use Paper2D: bits are first-class citizens in Unreal's materials and shading. The plugin and an example project can be downloaded from this page, and the plugin is on Fab, Epic's marketplace, too.

### Which formats can it export?

MP4, WebM, WebP, GIF and APNG, plus size-limited versions for Discord, social videos in square, 9:16 and 16:9, link-preview images, icons and stickers, a kit with every image Steam asks for, print-size PNGs, a web page or a React component that plays the scene live in the browser (WebGL2), and Unreal Engine 5. Every export is whole loops, scaled in whole steps so the pixels stay crisp.

### Does it support Unity or Godot?

Not at the moment. Unity support from the old Bit was dropped. Unreal Engine 5 is supported now, and Godot and Bevy may follow after Lunar Soil's release.

### What does it cost and when does it release?

Bit Studio is coming soon to Windows, Mac and Linux, and to the Steam Deck if it makes sense. There's no release date yet: it ships when it's done. The price hasn't been announced. Join the Discord to hear first.
